4-Part Series

Four life-size unbreakable plastic models, mounted on a single hardwood base, trace the development of human jaws and teeth from birth through adulthood.

Four teeth extract for hands-on study

The lower jaw of an eleven year old depicts deciduous teeth being replaced by permanent teeth. Unbreakable plastic, the model has been scaled to 3-1/2 times life size to enhance difficult to observe details.

The outer portion of the jaw bone has been cut away exposing the roots of the teeth, their nerves and blood vessels. Four teeth can be extracted from the jaw: an incisor, a premolar, molar, and a developing canine. One molar has caries. Another is sectioned longitudinally revealing its enamel, dentine, cementum, and pulp.

Thirty-one hand numbered structures are identified in the accompanying key.

This model features 4 pairs of life-size lumbar vertebrae in 3 stages of degeneration. Shown are a normal pair of lumbar vertebrae, a pair with a bulging herniated disc, a vertebrae set with bone and disc degeneration, and finally, advanced osteoporosis with serious bone compression and bone spurs. 6 times life-size, this unbreakable vinyl plastic replica is packed with useful teaching features. On the exterior of the eyeball is the cornea, through which the iris and pupil are visible, the large lacrimal (tear) gland, attachments for all six muscles that move the eyeball, the optic nerve, and surrounding blood vessels. The eyeball divides in half to study the interior. The iris/cornea can be removed as can the functional Lucite lens, which magnifies and forms inverted images. The transparent vitreous body exposes the choroid coat and retina. Rods, cones, and other retinal microstructures are detailed in a highly magnified diagrammatic cross section. 42 hand-coded features are identified in the corresponding key.
