Includes a thrombus in the apex of the heart. Also contains a heart demonstrating Congestive Heart Failure as a result of hypertension. The left ventricle hypertrophy and the correspondingly enlarged and distorted shape of the heart is shown both internally and externally. All models are approximately 50% actual size. This model includes a 4-stage cross-section of an artery demonstrating atherosclerosis in which the narrowing of the artery is due to a build up of fatty tissue (cholesterol) and plaque. The 4-stages illustrate normal artery, fatty streak, fibrous plaque, and blockage. The stages cause a decrease in blood flow, which can lead to a blood clot or thrombus. Three-dimensional and magnified 75 times, this series is really six models in one. The front face of the model compares and contrasts normal healthy skin from three different body regions: the palm or sole (totally hairless) ? the axilla or armpit (sparsely endowed with hair) ? the scalp (completely hirsute)

The epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis, as well as the glands, hair follicles, nerves and receptors are all sculpted in full relief with contrasting colors. 46 features are identified in the accompanying key. The back face shows the progressive severity of injury caused by burns - from the reddening and transitory damage of the first degree burn, to the blistering, often permanent damage of the second degree burn, to the deep charring and permanent tissue destruction of the third degree burn. Fully three-dimensional and mounted on a hardwood base, this life-size unbreakable plastic model includes lungs, trachea, heart, esophagus, and complete larynx with vocal cords, all in their natural position. The right half of the larynx can be removed, as well as the heart and half of the left lung, which exposes the bifurcation off the trachea and bronchial tree, the pulmonary arteries and veins. The heart itself splits in halves to show its four chambers and valves, thus providing understanding of the directional blood flow there. Pulmonary circulation can also be easily traced, and with major vessels of the systemic circulation depicted, blood flow through the entire body can be demonstrated. 58 numbered structures are identified in the corresponding key.
